Metroid Prime 2 Galactic Federation Log
…Begin Transmission…
Above Planet Aether
Day 1
“It’s getting away!” I said. We were on a mission to destroy a Space Pirate ship harvesting Phazon. After a dogfight, they retreated. We were ordered to follow. They were escaping to a planet we identified as Aether.
“We’ll make sure they don’t.” Capt. Exeter said. The planet was strange, its atmosphere periodically turning purple.
“Sir, we are detecting an electrical storm in the atmosphere!” Angseth shouted next to me.
“We’re going in anyway!” Exeter shouted. As we entered the atmosphere, purple lightning struck our ship. “Damage report!” Exeter shouted.
“We’ve been struck by lightning!” Triplette shouted from behind me.
“For God’s sake, I know that! What damage has it done?”
“Minimal damage to the wing!” I yelled. “But severe damage to the engine!”
“Damn!" Exeter swore. “Do we still have control?!"
"Affirmative sir!"
"Prepare to make an emergency landing!"
We landed on a small ledge on the planet's surface.
"Someone get me on the radio with command!"
“We’re trying sir.” Angseth said. “But there’s atmospheric interference preventing us from getting through.”
“Veroni!” I snapped to attention. “Get in a suit and survey the area! Take Brouda with you!”
I was relieved. Brouda was my best friend on the squad. We were both assigned to Combat Trooper when we first enlisted. We got our suits on, and stepped out of the ship.
There was a cliff behind where we landed the ship, and a ledge to our left. There was a mechanical gate to our right, with a light blue colored hologram coming out of it.
“Captain. Come in Captain.” I said into the com link in my helmet. “There’s a mechanical door to our right. Wherever we landed, we’re not alone."
I spotted a hive above us. “War wasp nest Brouda.”
“I’ll handle it. You take care of whatever wasps decide to come out.” He said, lifting his gun. He aimed his weapon, and began firing automatic shots. The nest exploded, and three wasps came out. They were about as big as my arm, with stingers at least half their body length. I lifted my own gun, and shot. My gun rattled, and I swept across where the wasps were. One, two, three dead in a blue explosion.
“Dang we’re good!” Brouda said.
“I have a feeling that’s not the worst this planet has to offer.” I worried.
“Well we’ll worry about that later.” Brouda said.
We got back in the ship, and reported the wasp nest to Exeter. “Hmm…We’ll keep watching out. Those things can be a pain in the ass.” Immediately after he said that, there was a shrill shriek.
“What the hell was that?!” Exeter shouted. “Everyone, battle stations!”
Everyone began getting into suits, and loading their weapons, all of them either being automatic blasters, or long range rifles. Everyone began to file outside and went to the stations that Exeter assigned. I was stationed on top of the ship, as a lookout.
We heard another screech, closer this time, and Exeter shouted, “Here they come! Be ready!” We only waited about five more minutes, but it seemed like hours. When they finally came, I gasped.
“Splinters!” Denys shouted. Countless insect-like creatures came out of the crevices in the canyon walls. They were about as big as a medium sized dog, brown, with four legs.
“Wait for my order.” Exeter said. “Now!” We all began firing. All around me there was the sound of shots being fired. I began firing. The gun rattled in my hands, and I swept across the front lines of the Splinters. It only took one shot for each of them to die. After about five minutes of shooting, Angseth spotted a larger Splinter.
“I think that’s the alpha.” She said over the com link in her helmet, gunfire rattling in the background. “If we kill it, these things might retreat!”
“We’ll try it.” Exeter replied. “Reevs! Get ready!”
“Got it.” Reevs replied. Reevs was the sniper in our squad. I kept picking off Splinters until he was ready, my arm becoming sore. Finally I heard Reevs’s voice over the com link in my helmet,
“Ready! I’m firing now!” I ducked and I heard a loud shot. I looked up and the Alpha Splinter exploded. Blood splattered onto my helmet.
“Thanks Reevs…” I said sarcastically.
“Oh sorry Veroni.”
“Nah, I’m just messing with you. Nice shot.” The Splinters began retreating.
“Okay, sound off!” Exeter shouted.
“Veroni, reporting!”
“Reevs is still living.”
“Angseth alive and hungry.”
“Brouda going strong.”
And the sound off continued until,
“Crany? Crany come in!” Exeter shouted.
“He’s down here sir!” Denys shouted.
“Dear God…” Exeter said as he saw the body. Down by the mechanical door, lied the body of Crany. It was battered, and there where chunks of his body missing, as if they tore off meat from Crany’s body. He was laying in a puddle of his own blood.
“These things…Splinters…They’re more dangerous than we thought…” Exeter said, awestruck.
